Even though our unemployment rate isn’t through the roof, there are still over 127,000 Hoosiers out there in need of work. Just take a look at California, where they estimated that recreational legalization could bring in a whopping 81,000 to 103,000 jobs. That’s a lot of folks paying their bills, thanks to the cannabis industry.

Indiana has a lot to offer when it comes to cannabis. Legalization would mean jobs, not only in the dispensaries but also in research and development. In July 2023 alone, Illinois sold a mind-boggling $35.6 million worth of products to out-of-state customers. That’s money flowing away from Indiana, and our economy is feeling the pinch.

One major roadblock to cannabis legalization in Indiana has been the Statehouse Republicans. Legislation like House Bill 1248, which aimed to establish a Cannabis Commission, never made it to the House floor.
