Burton, speaking during a roundtable discussion at Tampa General Hospital, acknowledged this anticipation but conceded the non-materialization of this desired federal shift.
Sharing the stage with Burton was Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson (R), who joined the discourse to address the state’s initiatives to safeguard minors from the impacts of high-potency hemp products. This shared concern, combined with the elusive changes in federal regulations, has spurred talk within the industry. The consensus seems to be that the potential reauthorization of the Farm Bill could hold the key to reshaping the hemp landscape. Dr. Justin Arnold, the medical director of the Florida Poison Information Center in Tampa, lent a critical medical perspective to the issue. As state agencies continue to address these concerns, the Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services is working on refining the state hemp program’s rules, particularly focusing on packaging and labeling requirements.
